Highlights
the crew gathered in the common area of their capsule hotel to plan their next move and socialize with some new members, a pair of marines named Treb and Kel
a trio of men led by the SecOps guard Miles made a complaint against at the Lucky Flight casino showed up at the capsule hotel and confronted Miles. Apparently his report got the SecOps guy fired and put on “the.list”, a public blacklist site that serves as a sort of sex offender registry and general unhirables list
the ex-guard demanded that Miles retract his statement and threatened violence. Miles kept it cool and stated he would retract/amend his report.
The crew planned the next stage of their op against Lucky Flight, and gave the uniform and credstick they stole to Treb. They decided to go to the casino right before closing time. Kel stayed behind and decided to sit out this op.
Miles and Nadia went to the front entrance and saw Vaska leaving with another woman they didn’t recognize. Miles told Vaska he wanted to amend his statement but she seemed unenthused about the flip flopping and like she just wanted the whole headache to disappear. She promptly banned Miles and Nadia from the establishment. Miles banged on the front door until a SecOps guard showed up.
Meanwhile, Treb, Alec, Gnat, and Joni waited by the staff entrance until the day shift guards left, and then used the stolen credstick to enter the staff room and descend the staff elevator to the security room.
They surprised a pair of staffers manning the surveillance room, one of whom promptly triggered an alarm. The other tried to flee the room.
Treb fired on the fleeing staff member with his pulse rifle and severely wounded their arm, incapacitating them. The other staff member immediately surrendered, and stated that a they could not call off the alarm. An emergency response team would shortly arrive, and the alarm would stop when they cleared the scene as safe.
Hearing the alarm and gunfire, the guard that had been standing by the front entrance watching Miles throw a fit headed deeper inside towards the elevator.
Miles and Nadia forced entry by shooting through the front door and reaching in to unlock it.
As they entered the darkened casino they saw the guard was peeking out from the doorway to the main floor staff room, apparently unable to use the elevator to descend. He heard the gunshots at the front door and was now holding an angle with his own weapon drawn.
“Who’s there??” Miles and Nadia ducked into the card tables room, and saw a teen in a hoodie hiding under one of the tables, apparently in here after hours to steal something as they were clutching some computer hardware. They looked terrified.
Miles told the kid to run and get out of here, so they sprinted for the front door, but took a round from the SecOps guard by the stairs before they made it out, and dropped to the floor.
Downstairs, Gnat was holding the elevator to prevent the main floor guard from coming down, but after a few minutes an override message was displayed and the doors began to close. The team could see on the security monitors that there was a second guard on the VIP floor, and he was plugging his credstick into a panel by the elevator.
A moment after that Gnat heard banging from behind the basement locker room door right next to him, one of only two rooms in the Casino with the camera feed turned off. He opened the door and saw a severely beaten man zip tied and chained to the floor. “cough Batu, n-nice to meet ya. Rescue team I presume.”
Apparently this was the guy who tried to do the job solo and hadn’t come back. Treb shot through the chain while Joni cut off this restraints and helped him up.
The response team countdown was running out at this point, and the crew could see an armored van pulling up to the pier/basement entrance.
The crew decided they’d rather not wait for the building to be stormed by whatever the nest stage above rent-a-guard is. The downstairs crew used restraints in the detention/interrogation room to tie up the two staffers and then headed to the green room to ascend to the main floor through the stage elevator.
On the main floor, the guard by the stairs was advancing on the prone body of the teen to check their status. Miles fired a warning shot before they got there, sending the guard scurrying into cover.
The stage elevator rose with the rest of the team, a bit too slowly for comfort, but some excellent suppressing fire from Treb kept anyone from getting picked off while they scrambled towards the front entrance.
As the team converged on the front entrance, they saw that the prone teen was still alive and not bleeding, just clutching their chest and breathing shallow breaths. Under their hoodie, a bullet-proof vest was visible. Joni determined they had a few broken ribs.
The crew helped them up and ran out into the night with teen thief and Batu in tow, scattering and agreeing to lay low for a week and then reconvene at the Stellar Burn.
